LESSON 4 · The Emotional Voice

Build a Character Voice

A distinct character comes from three dials: pitch (high, medium, low), pace (fast, moderate, slow), and resonance (nasal, oral, or chest). Mix the settings and a person appears. High, fast, and nasal feels like a nervous clerk; low, slow, and chesty feels like a tired king.

Try it: build three characters from these dials, give each a name and a mood, then switch between them inside one passage. That quick-switch drill is what makes your everyday voice feel alive even when you are just talking.
