LESSON 5 · The Emotional Voice
Sharpening Your Emotional Ear
Practice can noticeably improve your ability to read vocal emotion. Start by listening more than you speak. When someone tells you they are fine, check whether their voice agrees.

Phone conversations are excellent training because visual cues are removed, forcing reliance on vocal information alone. Pay attention to when someone's voice changes mid-conversation — that shift usually marks a change in emotional state that the words may not acknowledge.
