The Color Wheel Lie

The traditional color wheel is a human invention, not a map of physics. The real electromagnetic spectrum is a straight line — red on one end, violet on the other, no connection between them.

That stitching only works because human perception needs a bridge between the spectrum's endpoints. Other animals with different photoreceptors would draw a completely different map. Our color wheel is a portrait of the human visual system, not of light itself.
