Only about 0.7% is U-235
More than 99 percent of mined uranium is uranium-238, which does not readily sustain a chain reaction. Most reactors need the uranium-235 share boosted to a few percent, so the metal is run through enrichment plants that concentrate the rare fissile isotope before it becomes usable fuel.
