Pace: Speed as a Tool
The average conversational pace is about 150 words per minute. Speed up to 180 during exciting or narrative sections to build energy. Slow down to 120 during key points to signal importance. The contrast between fast and slow is what creates the feeling of dynamic delivery.

Strategic deceleration works because contrast attracts attention. When you slow before a key point, listeners get a cue that the next idea deserves room. Use it sparingly, or the contrast disappears.
