LESSON 7 · From Mumbling to Commanding

The Clean Pause

A pause is one of the cleanest tools in speech because it costs nothing and changes the rhythm immediately. Use it after a key point, before an answer, or when the room needs a beat to process.

Comedians understand pause better than anyone. Timing between setup and punchline shapes the laugh. In speaking, silence after an important point gives the idea room to land before the next sentence competes with it.
