Translate Their Language

Getting a yes means translating your needs into their language. A request framed around what you want is easy to defer. A request framed around what they care about — their quarter, their metric, their political headache — is harder to ignore and easier to approve.

Timing matters as much as framing. Never bring a problem without a proposed solution. Never deliver bad news at the worst possible moment. Read the room before making your move, and present information when they are most receptive to hearing it.
