LESSON 7 · Your Emotional Operating System
The Misunderstanding
Most people treat emotions as commands. You feel angry, so you yell. You feel anxious, so you avoid. You feel sad, so you withdraw. The impulse to act is strong and immediate, so this feels natural. But following every emotional impulse is like obeying every notification on your phone — most of them do not require action.
Emotions evolved to provide information, not instructions. Fear tells you a threat might be present — it does not tell you to run. Anger tells you a boundary may have been crossed — it does not tell you to fight. Guilt tells you a value may have been violated — it does not tell you to punish yourself.
