Anxiety as Fuel
The physical sensations of anxiety and excitement can overlap. Racing heart, sweaty palms, butterflies in the stomach can show up in both states, especially before performance. The label matters, but so do context, perceived threat, and how much control you feel.
Harvard researcher Alison Wood Brooks tested one useful reframe. People who told themselves "I am excited" before singing, speaking, or solving math problems outperformed those who tried to calm down.
