LESSON 7 · Tame the Anxiety Monster

Finding Your Zone

The sweet spot is not fixed — it shifts based on the complexity of the task. For simple, well-practiced tasks (running, typing, driving), you can handle higher arousal before performance drops.

This explains why you can run a personal best while terrified but cannot think clearly during an argument. The tasks demand different cognitive flexibility, and anxiety affects each differently.

To find your zone, pay attention to your internal state during your best performances:

  • Body: energized but not frantic
  • Focus: narrow but not tunnel-visioned
  • Thinking: quick but not racing

That state is your target. Learn to recognize it and you can reproduce it intentionally.
