The ultimate skill is treating your arousal level as a dial you can adjust rather than a switch you cannot control. This takes practice, but the payoff is the ability to bring your best to any situation.

Pre-performance routine: Develop a consistent sequence before important events. Athletes use warm-up rituals, musicians use scales, speakers use vocal exercises.

In-performance monitoring: Check in with your arousal during the task. Too low? Add intensity. Too high? Use a calming technique. Real-time adjustment separates consistently excellent performers from inconsistent ones.

Post-performance review: Note what your arousal was and how it affected output. Over time, you build a precise map of your optimal zone.
