Most people treat feedback as a verdict: something handed down once a year to survive. Promotable people treat it as fuel. They ask for it all year because feedback reveals blind spots before those spots cost them. It is the mirror for the part of performance you cannot see.

How you ask decides what you get. Do you have any feedback? invites a polite "looked great" and teaches you nothing. Ask instead: Where did this fall short? That question points straight at the gap, where real improvement lives.
