Separate Person From Request
The strongest move in any graceful no is to split the person from the ask. "I value you, and I can't take this on" lands completely differently from a flat "No." One protects the relationship; the other feels like rejection of the human in front of you.
The reliable pattern: acknowledge the request, name your real constraint, and offer a path forward when you can. "I appreciate you thinking of me. My plate is full through next month, but I'm happy to point you to someone who can help now."
