LESSON 6 · Stay Sharp Under Pressure

Why Nights Go Wrong

One factor at night gets overlooked: you are usually alone, with no social judgment to moderate a rash choice. Pile on the daytime drains and judgment clouds fast:

  • Less accountability — no one is around to talk you out of it
  • Lower willpower — self-control feels thinner after a day of choices
  • Low cortisol — this stress and arousal hormone, highest in the morning, is at its daily low
  • Slower thinking — the rational brain lags as the pull toward sleep builds

This is why many therapists advise against big relationship decisions late at night, and why financial advisors suggest sleeping on any large purchase.
