Habits That Keep Maps Honest
Four concrete habits turn this into practice:
- Write the prediction down — note what your model says will happen before it happens, then check it against the result. Memory quietly rewrites the score; paper does not
- Name the model out loud — saying "I'm treating this as a supply-and-demand problem" reminds you it is one lens, not the whole picture
- Test the edges — models work well at their center and break at their limits, so push them to find where they fail
- Save a second model for high stakes — when a decision is small, one map is fine; when it is costly, run another lens before you commit.
