LESSON 5 · The Promotion Blueprint

Set the Stage First

Never ambush your manager with a promotion ask out of the blue. Schedule a dedicated meeting with a clear title: "I would like to discuss my career growth." The advance notice lets them gather evidence in your favor instead of reacting on the spot.

A blindsided manager defaults to "let me think about it" — the graveyard of all promotion requests. Give them the heads-up, and you turn a cold request into a prepared conversation where both sides come ready to talk.
