LESSON 5 · Speak Up at Work

Handle the Interruption

Interruptions hit junior people and women the hardest. A rehearsed phrase stops the floor grab without escalating.

Three that work:

  • "Let me finish my point."
  • "Give me thirty seconds, then I want to hear yours."
  • "I want to complete this thought before we branch."

Delivered calmly, with no apology and no anger, each one reclaims the floor without starting a fight. Finish the point, then move on. Using one of these once a week is enough to reshape how a room handles your airtime over a quarter.
