Apologize Like a Professional
When feedback reveals you have genuinely hurt someone, a proper apology is non-negotiable. Skip "I'm sorry if you felt that way" — that phrase deflects responsibility and usually makes the situation worse than silence would have.
Instead: "I realize my behavior in [specific situation] caused [specific impact]. That was not my intention, but the impact is what matters. I'm working on changing this, and here is what I'm doing differently." A sincere apology that includes a concrete plan for change repairs relationships faster than any amount of careful avoidance ever will.
