LESSON 3 · Thrive Working Remote
The Shutdown Ritual
Build a 5-minute end-of-day ritual: review tomorrow's top priorities, close every work tab, change out of your work clothes, and say out loud, "The workday is done." The verbal cue sounds absurd written down. It works because it gives the day a clean ending.
Your brain needs a clear signal to shift modes. Skip it, and you'll check email at 10pm "just in case" — which silently becomes every single night, until your evenings belong to work and your partner stops asking when you'll actually be present.
The ritual doesn't have to be elaborate. It has to be consistent: the same few actions, in the same order, every weekday. Repetition turns the ending into a cue your body recognizes, so stopping work takes less debate.
