LESSON 3 · Thrive Working Remote

The Availability Contract

A boundary nobody knows about is just a private wish. Put yours somewhere permanent: email signature, calendar, or team wiki. One plain sentence works: "Available 9am to 5pm Eastern. Messages after that get a reply next business day." Written once, it becomes the default.

The sentence only works if you back it up. Most boundary enforcement is simply not replying at 9pm when your brain says, "just this once." One after-hours reply quietly rewrites the contract; the messages you let sit until morning make the rule real.
