LESSON 4 · Build a Reputation That Precedes You

Bypass the Performance Entirely

Skills can be learned; results can be inflated. But character signals — consistency, integrity, generosity — are harder to fake over time. Repeated under pressure, they become one of the most durable parts of your reputation: people forget some of what you did; they remember how you operated.

The reason character signals work is time asymmetry. A polished pitch can be rehearsed in a week; a reputation for follow-through requires hundreds of small honored commitments — which is why nobody fakes their way in.
