The Recovery Signal
How you handle mistakes is a character signal that's hard to fake. When you drop the ball — and everyone does — the speed and sincerity of your recovery shape your reputation more sharply than a clean streak with no visible test.
Own the mistake immediately: "I missed the deadline. Here's my plan to fix it, and here's what I'll change to prevent it next time." A fast, specific recovery can build trust because people learn how you behave when things go wrong. Pretending nothing happened does the opposite. People do not need perfection; they need proof that you repair quickly and learn visibly.
