Positions and Interests
Many negotiators assume the visible demand is the whole issue. Often it is only a position. The interest underneath may be status, certainty, speed, fairness, or risk reduction.

Ask discovery questions before proposing solutions. "What matters most to you?" often reveals priorities you never anticipated. Maybe they care more about timeline than price. Understanding real interests lets you craft proposals that give them what they value most while protecting what you value.
