The Full-Body Listen

Most people listen with their ears alone. Skilled listeners use their entire body to signal attention. Face the speaker squarely. Unfold your arms. Let your expressions respond to what you hear. Nod at natural pause points, not constantly but in rhythm with their speech.

These signals do more than show politeness. They actually improve your comprehension. When your body is oriented toward a speaker, your brain processes their words more deeply. Slouching back with crossed arms does not just look disengaged, it makes you genuinely less attentive.
