LESSON 1 · Navigate Any Conflict

The Iceberg Check

Every argument has a visible disagreement on the surface and invisible needs underneath. The visible part might be about who forgot to send the email. The invisible part is about feeling disrespected or undervalued. If you only address the surface, the same conflict returns in different packaging.

The iceberg check is a simple mental exercise. When conflict starts, ask yourself: "What might this person need that they are not directly asking for?" The hidden need is usually one of the same core ones: autonomy, respect, fairness, connection, or safety. Once you spot it, the argument usually loses half its heat.
