LESSON 4 · Navigate Any Conflict

Creative Problem-Solving

A problem-solving framework for finding hidden solutions:

  • Separate the people from the problem — depersonalize so both sides attack the issue together
  • List all interests — what each side really needs, not what they are demanding out loud
  • Brainstorm without judgment — generate as many options as possible before evaluating any
  • Look for asymmetric trades — the lopsided swaps where win-win usually hides

The "what if" technique is especially powerful. "What if we extended the timeline but increased the scope?" tests reactions without anyone committing to anything yet.
