LESSON 2 · Lead Every Conversation

Setting the Structure

Leaders do not just participate in conversations, they structure them. Setting an agenda, establishing ground rules, and defining the desired outcome before discussion begins turns chaotic dialogue into productive problem-solving.

The simplest structure is declaring the goal upfront: "By the end of this conversation, I want us to have decided X." That single sentence tells everyone what success looks like, so people contribute toward a clear target instead of talking past each other.
