Eye Contact Is Contextual
Eye contact is a powerful nonverbal cue, but it is not a universal law. It shows attention in many settings, while in others too much direct gaze can feel aggressive. Match the person and context.

In one-on-one conversation, maintain eye contact about 60 to 70 percent of the time in many Western settings. Look at the speaker when they talk. Briefly glance away when gathering your thoughts - this appears natural. Return when you are ready.
