LESSON 3 · Body Language Secrets

Real vs. Rehearsed

Two clues can help, but neither proves emotion by itself. First, facial coordination: a genuine expression often fits the whole face and the moment, while a staged one may feel pieced together. Symmetry alone is a weak hint, because research on posed and spontaneous expressions is mixed.

Second, timing. A real reaction tends to fire close to the trigger, then fade naturally. A staged one may arrive a beat late, linger too long, or snap off abruptly. When the face and the moment do not line up, treat the mismatch as a reason to ask more, not as mind-reading proof.
