The Gratitude Response

A useful response to criticism is genuine gratitude: "Thank you for telling me that." It can soften the adversarial dynamic, but it does not stop every reaction instantly, and it does not mean you agree with everything said.

The reason feedback stings is that we confuse what we did with who we are. "Your presentation was unclear" gets heard as "You are incompetent." Practice separating these two layers.
