The Hidden Question

The question asked is often not the question needed. "How long will this take?" may mean "Can I trust your estimate?" Answer the real concern.

Paraphrasing — restating the question in your own words before you answer — is one of the most effective listening techniques.

It checks that you understood the ask and shows the other person you were listening before you respond.
