Your audience does not announce when they leave. They leave silently — their bodies stay in the room while their minds wander to lunch plans, email, and weekend errands. By the time you finish your point, half the room has already mentally checked out.

The most obvious modern signal is the phone check. One person glancing at a notification is noise. Three people checking phones within a minute is a pattern. Watch the timing — if checks spike during a specific section, that section is losing them in real time.
