LESSON 2 · Recover When You Lose Them

The Pattern Interrupt

When an audience disengages, they have settled into a predictability pattern, believing they know what comes next and deciding it is not worth their attention. A sudden, unexpected story breaks that pattern. The brain wakes up when it cannot predict you.

The drop-in story appears spontaneous but is actually prepared. It interrupts your planned content with a seemingly unrelated narrative that circles back to your point. When material falls flat, pivot to a personal story. Authenticity beats polish.
