LESSON 2 · Recover When You Lose Them

Story Architecture

A comeback story needs specific ingredients to recapture attention quickly:

  • Hook in the first sentence — "I almost got fired for what I'm about to tell you."
  • Sensory details — sounds, visuals, physical sensations that activate the brain's experience centers.
  • Tension — something at stake, a problem that needs resolution.
  • Surprise — an outcome the audience did not predict.
  • Relevance — a clear connection back to your main message.

Keep it under 90 seconds. The purpose is to recapture attention, not to entertain indefinitely. Once you have them back, return to your content with renewed energy.
