Phrases That Backfire
Some phrases sound professional but quietly undermine you. "Does that make sense?" implies your explanation might be confusing. Replace it with "What questions do you have?" — it assumes clarity and invites dialogue.
"I'm no expert, but..." is another credibility killer. If you're sharing an opinion, own it: say "Based on my experience" or "From what I've observed" instead.
Watch the passive voice too. "Mistakes were made" sounds evasive. "We missed the deadline, and here's our recovery plan" sounds like leadership.
