LESSON 4 · Sound Like a Boss

Concrete Beats Abstract

One of the fastest ways to sound clearer is to replace abstract descriptions with specific ones:

  • Vague: "We need to do it soon." Clear: "We need it by Friday at 3 PM."
  • Vague: "It went pretty well." Clear: "We closed two of the three deals."
  • Vague: "I need some help." Clear: "I need someone to review this report before noon."
  • Vague: "There were issues." Clear: "The server went down twice on Monday."
  • Vague: "Let's touch base later." Clear: "Let's talk at 2 PM tomorrow."

Numbers, dates, names, and deadlines turn fog into focus. When you catch yourself saying "some" or "soon," ask: can I be more specific?
