The Authority Gap

Two people say the same sentence. One sounds like a leader. The other sounds like they are asking for permission. The difference is not accent or vocabulary — it is vocal authority.

Many English learners accidentally turn statements into questions by raising their pitch at the end. "We should launch on Tuesday?" That upward inflection, called uptalk, signals uncertainty even when you are completely sure.
