LESSON 5 · Confidence in Every Word

Staying Composed in Conflict

When someone turns confrontational, your instinct is to either fight back in broken English or retreat into silence. Both lose.

Lower your voice when others raise theirs. It feels counterintuitive, but it is powerful. A calm, low voice in the middle of heated English forces everyone else to quiet down to hear you. It also slows your own heart rate, giving your language brain a chance to come back online.
