LESSON 1 · Travel English Survival Kit

The Airport Dialect

Airports run on a specific set of English phrases that repeat often. "Boarding pass, please." "Window or aisle?" "Place your items in the bin." Learn these 30-odd phrases and you can move from check-in to landing with fewer awkward moments. Miss them, and even simple tasks turn stressful.

The good news is that airport English is highly predictable. Every airport in the world follows roughly the same sequence: check-in, security, gate, boarding, flight, arrival. The vocabulary at each stage barely changes.
