LESSON 2 · Voice Care Essentials

Sleep and Vocal Recovery

Sleep is when your vocal folds do their deepest healing. During quality sleep, blood flow increases to damaged tissue, inflammation decreases, and the muscles controlling your voice fully relax and recover.

Aim for seven to eight hours in a cool, humid room. Elevate your head slightly to prevent reflux. Avoid alcohol before bed as it both dehydrates tissue and worsens reflux. Mouth breathing during sleep dries the throat, so address any nasal congestion that forces open-mouth breathing overnight.
