LESSON 1 · Deeper, Richer, Magnetic
The Mask and Forward Placement
Forward resonance, also called mask resonance, uses the spaces in your cheekbones, nasal passages, and forehead to amplify and project sound. Place your fingers on your cheekbones and speak with intentional brightness. You should feel a buzzing vibration in the bone. This forward placement carries your voice further with less effort.
To develop it, practice the sounds "mmmm" and "nnnng" while feeling for vibration in your face. Then open into vowels while keeping that forward buzz — say "mmmmaaaah" and "mmmmeeee," holding the vibration in your cheeks rather than letting it fall back into your throat.
