Why Philosophers Fight

Two respected frameworks give opposite advice:

  • Causal decision theory says take both — your choice can't change what's already in the box
  • Evidential decision theory says take one — your choice is evidence of what the predictor did
  • Since 1969, no consensus has emerged among professionals

This isn't just a party trick. The same structure appears in arms races, price wars, and trust games. Whenever someone predicts your move before you make it, you are living inside Newcomb's problem.
