The Filter You Cannot See

You believe your political party is right. So you read news sources that agree, follow commentators who confirm your views, and dismiss critics as biased. Every piece of information that supports your belief slides right in.

This is not a character flaw — it is a feature of human cognition. Your brain handles enormous amounts of information by filtering it through existing beliefs. Without some filtering, you would drown in data. The problem is that this filter is invisible.
