LESSON 4 · Outsmart Your Own Biases

How It Warps Everything

Confirmation bias operates at every level of human thought:

  • Science — researchers unconsciously design studies more likely to confirm their hypotheses
  • Medicine — doctors who form early diagnoses notice supporting symptoms and overlook contradicting ones
  • Relationships — once you decide someone is untrustworthy, you read their neutral actions as suspicious
  • Investing — after buying a stock, you seek out bullish analysis and ignore bearish warnings

The bias even shapes how you remember. Memories that confirm your beliefs grow sharper and easier to recall, while contradictory ones fade or get reinterpreted.
