LESSON 1 · Decide Together

One-Way Or Two-Way

Amazon's two-door rule gives the choice a name. One-way doors are hard to reverse: give them slow, careful thought and broad input. Two-way doors are easy to reverse: let a small group decide them quickly, because being wrong costs little.

Most workplace decisions are two-way doors treated like one-way doors — wrapped in caution they never needed. So the first move is one question: which door is this?

Get the label right and the rest follows. Heavy doors earn the meeting; light doors do not.
