LESSON 5 · Your Emotional Operating System

Practical Methods

Not every method suits every person. Here are three proven approaches to try.

  • Stream of consciousness: Set a timer for 10 minutes and write without stopping. Do not edit, pause, or reread. If you run dry, write "I do not know what to write" until something surfaces. It always does.
  • Emotional check-in: Three times a day, write one sentence: "Right now I feel [emotion] because [reason]." This builds emotional granularity and a searchable record of your patterns.
  • Gratitude journaling: Each night, write three specific things you appreciated. Martin Seligman found this can lift happiness for months.
