Common Mistakes

Most people who try journaling and quit make one of three mistakes.

Expecting instant relief. Journaling is not a pressure valve. The first few sessions often surface hard feelings rather than resolving them. Benefits build over days and weeks, not minutes.

Censoring yourself. Writing for an imagined audience is performing, not journaling. The power comes from radical honesty: write the ugly thoughts, the petty feelings, things you would never say aloud.

Overcomplicating it. You do not need a fancy notebook or a perfect routine. A notes app works. The only requirement is honest expression.
