LESSON 4 · The Confidence Project

Practical Body Image Work

A better relationship with your body is built in small reps, not one big decision. Four practices can help:

  • Functionality journaling. Each day, note three things your body did for you — walked you to work, digested a meal, hugged a friend. Moves attention from looks to appreciation.
  • Mirror exposure. If mirror checking is not compulsive or overwhelming for you, spend two minutes looking at your reflection without judging it. Just observe; over time the emotional charge may fade.
  • Media literacy. When an idealized image stops your scroll, name the trick: professionally lit, posed, edited, filtered.
  • Movement for joy. Move because it feels good, not as punishment for eating. Then your body becomes an ally.
