LESSON 4 · What Actually Drives You

Motivation Vs Discipline

The biggest misconception about getting things done is that you need motivation. You don't. Motivation is an emotion — it comes and goes. Waiting for it is like waiting for perfect weather before leaving the house.

What you need is discipline: the ability to act on your intentions no matter how you feel. Discipline isn't willpower, which runs out. It's a system of habits and structures that make the right action easier than the wrong one.

Disciplined people aren't more motivated than everyone else. They just built systems that don't depend on their mood.

The practical shift: stop trying to feel motivated and start building systems.
