LESSON 1 · Escape Toxic Patterns
Why You Stayed
If you have been in a narcissistic relationship, you have asked: "Why did I stay so long?" The question is loaded with self-blame.
Trauma bonding. The idealization-devaluation cycle is intermittent reinforcement — the same mechanism that makes gambling so hard to quit. The occasional highs feel more intense against the backdrop of lows.
Cognitive dissonance. You hold two beliefs: "This person treats me badly" and "This person loves me." Your brain eases the clash by minimizing the bad or exaggerating the good.
Erosion of self-trust. After gaslighting, you no longer trust your judgment. "Maybe I am overreacting. Maybe I am the problem." This manufactured self-doubt keeps you locked in.
